I have quickly learned that you cannot put all your trust in people, human beings. In the word, Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take”. People do not always intentionally fail us, sometimes, it is unintentional. We must remember to not hold it against those who let us down. It is so important that we understand God looks at the heart. It is not our place to figure out whether the intentions of the disappointment were good or bad.

Do you ever feel upset when you are disappointed? Does it bother you that the one whom you thought would be there, was not? How about when someone tells you, “If you ever need anything, I will be there” and when the time comes, they do not follow through? Let me tell you what the word of God has to say about that. First, let us pause for just a quick moment to acknowledge how wonderful the word of God is! God has already prepared a scenario and parable for each life situation we will ever encounter. He has equipped us for what could happen, would happen, and even what has already happened. Now, back to the unprecedented disappointments. His word tells us in Colossians 3:13, “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others”. That is simply telling us that we should already have it in the daily schedule of ours, for disappointments. You may not be disappointed everyday or every week but, it is a known fact that it will come.

Let me make this practical for you. Samson was disappointed and very hurt when Delilah told of his secret (Judges 16). Samson was disappointed, prior to meeting Delilah, by his very own wife. Samson’s wife had slept with his best man and, Samson’s father-in-law told him to choose the sister instead (Judges 15). This was a type of disappointment that Samson felt he would not come back from. What ended up happening because of the disappointment, Samson burned their grain to the ground. In turn, they (the Philistines) planned vengeance against Samson and, they even killed his father-in-law and his daughter.

People, when others fail us and it is unprecedented, we cannot fight fire with fire. We must lay that failure at the cross, forgive them for failing us and move on. Now, we are living in a time where people are fending for themselves. This is a “If it’s not happening to me, it’s not my problem” type of time we are living in. That is why it is so vital to stay in the word of God. Because God’s word can sustain you and, pick you up when you have been failed. God will never leave us nor forsake us. He is always there for us, with open arms. I want you to think about this. What time can you think of where God was not readily available to you? Can you think of a time where he left you out in the cold? There is not a time, no not one. I want to use one other practical scenario for you. We, the state of Texas, experienced unprecedented weather conditions that we had not experienced in the last ten years prior to. Now, the roads were beginning to finally clear up and I decided to go to the gas station. This gas station was completely packed with people filling up their tanks in the event fuel went low. As I pulled up to the pump, I got out, and pumped my gas. We all know that you should turn off your vehicle as you pump. When I got back into my car, began to start it, the battery was completely dead. I messaged people to say what had just happened to me. I even asked a couple people at the gas station for jumper cables or if they could help me. One guy stated that he would run to get some and, he would come back to help me. As many minutes were passing, I was beginning to have the feeling of disappointment. In that moment, God spoke to me saying, my child do you not know to count on Me? You are counting so much on someone else and, you are beginning to lose hope that I will come through for you. Remember the guy? Yes, he never came back. I felt helpless, hopeless, upset and, very annoyed. But after God spoke to me, all those feelings were reversed. There was a car that pulled behind me to get fuel and, before I could look up to see it, the older lady was at my door. My words to her were “I’m so sorry. My battery died after I pumped my gas. I am waiting on help to come”. She said “Oh no! As least it is not raining or anything. This is a bad time. I’m sorry.” The next thing I know, a younger girl is at my door saying “Hey! We have jumper cables, and we are going to pull in front of you.” I was so relieved and so thankful to God. He did as He always said, and he looked out for me. After all of this was done and I was headed home, He said to me, “Now next time, you need to look to the hills and not to others”.

I say all of that to say, people will fail you. The word has already told us to make allowances for each failure. At the end of the day, I was not angry at any of those that did not come to my rescue. Because as you can see from Samson, being angry at the failures of people will cause you to act in a way that is not of God. As I have said above, some failures are intentional, and some are unintentional. However, it is not up to us to distinguish which is which. Forgive either way and move on. Tomorrow is a new day and God’s grace is made new!
