Do we take into consideration that we should live a healthy life? How important is it to you to eat well, get enough sleep, exercise? We should seek God in all that we do, including our health. God cares about how healthy you are and what you do to sustain your health.

In 1 Corinthians 10:31 it says, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God”. In ALL things that we do, including eating, it should be to God’s glory. We must stay aware of what we are putting into our bodies. Being cognizant of the portions of which you are digesting. If you are going to drink, do not do so to get drunk (and that is the word). Ephesians 5:18 says, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit”. What God is telling us is a direct command. When you are drunk, does that not impair your judgement? When you are drunk, does it not cause you to act in a manner that you would not if you were sober? Everything belongs to the Lord as stated in 1Corinthians 10:26. The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof. That scripture gives me goosebumps each time I read it! Everything belongs to God.

Do you have a sweet tooth? You love your red velvet cake, pound cake, lemon meringue pie? We can have all those sweet foods, however, do so in moderation. You can eat your sweets, but do not overdo it! Proverbs 25:27 tells us, “It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one’s own glory”. So hey, have your sweets, but be mindful of your intake. Overindulging is not a good thing (that is not of God). Think about it like this. When you take that first bite of red velvet cake, does the last bite really taste like the first? If you overindulge in that cake, you will not genuinely enjoy that sweetness, succulent, chocolaty taste of that cake. Each bite you take will grow more and more dull as you overindulge. That is how we are sometimes in sin. We overindulge in sin because it “feels” good, “tastes” good, it “looks” good. But as we overdo it with sin, we are growing more and more dull in Christ. God does not set boundaries to keep us bound. He has already expressed to us that He knows the plans He has for us, for us to prosper. In Proverbs 25:28 it tells us, “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls”. My study Bible put it best, it is like having no defense against enemies. Having self-control is so vital! You need to be able to give God something to work with.

Now, if you want that cake you can have it. You most certainly can! In 1 Corinthians 6:13, it tells us that you can have what you want. But keep in mind as you give your body everything it craves; human desires are corrupt by sin. Food is meant for the stomach and stomach for food, but God can destroy them both (that is Bible!). Want to do His will? Want to be a willing vessel for Christ? Eat right, live right! We say the race is not given to the swift or strong but those that can endure. How can we endure if we are overweight? Okay. Burger King says, “Have it your way” and God is telling us “Do it My way”. We will live a long, prosperous, healthy life if we do it the way He says to do it.

We are the temple. God lives within us and, if He does not reside in you, I encourage you today to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that He was raised from the dead with ALL power in His hands (Romans 10:9). And guess what? You will be saved! It is just that easy! God wants our all. He wants us to give Him 100% all the time. He blesses us time after time after time, and we cannot be obedient to the simple things. Will you trust Him with your health today? You will not regret it! Try Him and see is He not good!
